What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding, as it is known in the U.K., is a system designed to protect children (and adults) from abuse, neglect and exploitation. It is a collective responsibility and is intended to protect the physical and emotional well-being of an individual. Often, it might involve small intervention services that can help the family, but it can also involve intervention by local authorities when there is a significant risk of harm.

What you need to know?

The success of any safeguarding system depends on the knowledge and understanding of abuse, neglect, and exploitation—what each of these are, signs to be aware of, how to respond to concerns, how to report a situation. The goal of any safeguarding system is to make a societal change so that people understand that abuse, neglect, and exploitation are not acceptable—ever, under any circumstances.

OUR STORY.

Paul and Antonia started Safeguarding Fundamentals to save as many children as possible from the abuse that Paul and so many others suffered—and who may still be suffering. Abuse is never acceptable and our mission is to stop the life-wrecking consequences of abuse which passes through generations.

Paul dreamed of making it as a professional footballer. It was a dream that would lead him into a nightmare of sexual and physical abuse from which he has still not recovered.

He now dedicates himself to telling his story in the hopes of building awareness of abuse in sports and has developed education courses in safeguarding to help achieve his mission.
